A restaurant logo gets looked at more than almost any other small business logo: on the window, the menu, the cup, the takeout bag, the delivery app tile and the staff shirt. It has to taste like your food before anyone has tried it.
Key idea: start from the experience you sell. A late-night coney counter, a Corktown cocktail bar and a Southwest Detroit taqueria should not look alike, even if they all serve great food.
Restaurant logo ideas by type
Diner or coney island. Chrome-era script, a bold outline and a warm red or mustard palette. Think of the sign as much as the logo, because it will be lit up.
Bakery or cafe. Soft serif or hand-drawn lettering, a simple icon like a wheat stalk, cup or rolling pin, and cream, brown or blush tones.
Food truck. Big, blocky and high-contrast. The logo has to read on the side of a truck from the far side of a festival crowd, and it doubles as your social media avatar.
Barbecue and grill. Branded-stamp or woodcut style marks, a pig, flame or cleaver icon, and black with ember orange.
Bar or brewery. Badge or emblem layouts that fit coasters, tap handles and merch. Neighborhood nods work well here.
Family or heritage kitchen. A monogram or a mark built from the family name, sometimes with a cultural motif drawn respectfully and simply. Great for places with a story behind the recipes.
Colors and appetite
Warm reds, oranges and yellows feel energetic and hungry, which is why fast casual uses them. Greens suggest fresh and healthy. Black, cream and gold feel upscale. Pick colors that also work printed in one color on a paper bag or a sticker.
Practical rules for food businesses
- Design for the round crop. Delivery apps and social profiles show your logo in a small circle. Have an icon version that fills it.
- One-color version for packaging. Custom-printed cups, bags and boxes are priced by color count.
- Stamp-friendly shapes. A logo that works as a rubber stamp on kraft bags saves printing money.
- Legible names. Customers search for you by name. If they cannot read it, they cannot find you.
- Leave the menu out. List what you serve on the sign and menu, not inside the logo.
Where a restaurant logo will appear
Window vinyl and exterior sign, menus and table tents, cups, bags and stickers, aprons and caps, DoorDash, Uber Eats and Grubhub listings, Google Business profile, gift cards and catering proposals. Ask for vector files for signs and packaging and transparent PNGs for apps.
